American Pool Tables

There is often a misconception about the difference between English Pool Tables and American Pool Tables. Hopefully this article will help answer this.

American Pool Tables

The only differences between the two games is essentially the dimensions of the table, cushions, pockets and balls. The style of the table is not a factor and we can build all of our tables in either version of the game. The is also nothing to stop you playing 8 Ball (pot your 7 balls then the black) or 9 Ball (player to pot the 9 ball wins the game, but you have to hit the lowest numbered ball on the table 1st) on either table. We generally supply Spots and Stripe balls with all of our tables to allow greater flexibility (you can not play 9 ball pool with Reds and Yellows!).

American Pool
American Pool is typically played on a 7′, 8′ or 9′ Table with larger 2 1/4 inch (57mm) balls, therefore larger pockets. The game of Nine ball is also typically played on an American Pool Table. If you would like a 8′ or 9′ Pool table we recommend you choose an American Pool Table.

English Pool
English Pool is typically played on a 6′ or 7′ Table with small 2 inch (50.8mm) balls, therefore smaller pockets. If you are interested in a 5′, 6′ or 7′ table we recommend the English Pool version of the game.
